Improfest Vol. 2

ImproFest Vol. 2
14th to 17th of July 2022
On the 13-17 of July the 2 Danish collectives, The Community and SunShip present SHARE ImproFest for the second year.
Last time it was a blast of an impro party and our ambitions have only increased since.
We are eager to explore the possibilities to present free improvised music to a festive and new audience in a form and manner that will make them have a party they won’t forget without compromising the integrity of the music.
The participating musicians have rehearsals and concerts in new constellations each day and we strongly encourage each ensemble to think of how to present their music in the most inclusive way.
After the concerts each night there will be curated jam sessions inviting local musicians to join the fun.
The SHARE ImproFest is a part of Aarhus jazz festival and was quite successful audience-wise last year and we hope to attract even more people this year. The whole thing will be kicked off on Wednesday 13th with a concert of Horse Orchestra from Copenhagen who is a unique Scandinavian group playing the weirdest and most happening kind of jazz imaginable.
The participants will be a mix of local musicians, core collectives of the European SHARE project and invites from other collectives interested in the network of SHARE adding up to a group of 20 professional improvisers from 6 or more different countries.

MIA Festival

THE MEETING OF IMPROVISED MUSIC of ATOUGUIA DA BALEA (MIA) !
From 9th to 12th of June
What is the MIA festival ?
FESTIVAL OF IMPROVISED MUSIC
MIA is an event organized around artistic and pedagogical aspects of musical experimentation and innovation, guided by cooperation and sharing between creative artists.
«If today we can say that there is an effective community of improvisers in Portugal, whether they are connected to jazz or take more “exploratory” routes, this is due, in large part, to the existence of an event like MIA (…) it is as if it were an improvisers’ congress, in which people of the most varied levels of creative experience and also instrumental mastery, have the opportunity to establish cooperation.» (Rui Eduardo Paes – Jazz.pt)
«Portugal’s Música Improvisada de Atouguia da Baleia (MIA) is like few other festivals. Part music camp, part improvisational showcase and part concert series, this year’s 10th anniversary edition brought together about 100 musicians for 14 official concerts, 24 Grupos Sorteados (GS), or randomly selected group sets, plus workshops, unique large ensembles, conduction finales and late-night jam sessions.» (Ken Waxman – Jazzword)
This year it would be its 13th edition still taking place in the beautiful place of Atouguia Da Balea in PORTUGAL
For 2022 :
This year, workshop, concerts, aperitif concerts and Jam sessions are planned. The collective organiser : Zpoluras has invited musicians and dancers from Portugal and from other parts of Europe to participate.

THE FREE FLOW FESTIVAL #11

FREE FLOW FESTIVAL #11
27th to 29th of May 2022
This event is organized by Cricket productions, Muzic Plus, Resilienza, Corpi Narranti as part of share impro.
The eleventh edition of the Free Flow Festival – in collaboration with the SHARE project co-financed by the European Community – reflects and enhances the characteristics of the the new international creative music, in which sounds, structures and pathos define in real time the essence of what is being created.
In this edition we will experience the combination of dance and improvisation, we will talk about production and distribution of creative and no commercial music, we will build a Southern Italy’s ephemeral musical instrument and will involve autistic children and yoga practitioners in musical improvisations.
Where there is sound, there is music.
Where there is creativity, there is evolution.

Musical Meeting for European Improvisors (MMEI)

MUSICAL MEETING FOR EUROPEAN IMPROVISORS (MMEI) IS COMING BACK !
From 13th to 17th of April 2022
What is MMEI (Musical Meetings for European Improvisers) ?
PEER-TO-PEER LEARNING
Musical Meeting for European Improvisors (MMEI) is a 5 day workshop for musicians working in the fields of improvised music.

6 musicians from Denmark and 6 from the other countries will have a very special chance to develop their professional standpoint through experimenting with peer-to-peer learning in a workshop that consists of a series of presentations which will form the foundation for in-depth work in ensembles.
Speakers from outside are invited, and each participant contributes with a presentation to their ensemble, allowing the workshop to present a wide palette of inspiration, methods and techniques in improvisational music and we organize local concerts to present our new improvised music outside the bigger cities.
MEEI is highly based on the sharing of musical practices, techniques and concepts among the participants, by having each participant lead a session in their ensemble by presenting something from their own practice to the others and collaboratively exploring this in music.
Focus will furthermore be on strengthening the collaboration and network among the partners.
Below, a video of the first MMEI – 18th to 22nd of August 2021 :
Why this project ?
We want to facilitate musical exchange, by letting the participants present some musical element that has their interest to the others.

As examples you could choose improvisational methods/concepts, extended techniques, preparations, open compositions, conducted pieces, scales/tone rows or rhythmical structures, but it could also be presenting specific music that made an impact on your approach to improvising and explaining how you investigate this and adapt it into your own playing. The choice of what content to present is rather free, but obviously everyone has a responsibility for the others to bring something that matters for them and thus could be useful to experience for others.
The presentation can be mostly theoretical or practical as you like and there can be more or less time for experimentation also depending on the content.
Each participant is asked to prepare a session for their ensemble and send us a short text describing this beforehand.

Impro’ for dummies

Impro’ for dummies
“What do you think of when you hear the term “improvised music”? For seasoned ears, it sounds like a constellation of artists, beyond jazz. For others, it may be the fear of the discordant, the bizarre, the unheard of.
To satisfy your curiosity, two guests share here their vision of this musical genre, its history, the relationship to the world it induces. They also propose you some listening, to hear this world we are talking about“.
Radio Campus Tour turns the microphone over to Yoram Rosilio, double bass player, composer, from the collective Le Fondeur de son (Paris) and other groups, and Jonathan Aardestrup, double bass player from the collective The Community (Copenhagen) and member of The Way Out. They come back on what is improvised music for them and underline the motivations of SHARE project.
Both Artistic Directors of SHARE project, they have organized several improvisation meetings in Europe, and dream of a European network of improvisers.

SHARE ImproFest

This short film shows the energetic and passionate meeting between improvising musicians from Aarhus and international participants from Europe. The SHARE improfest took place in Aarhus and was a new collaboration between the musicians’ collective The Community and Sun Ship, the Aarhus concert association which has presented experimental frontier-seeking music since 2003.
For the Improfest the Swedish improvisation collective FRIM was invited along with partners from the SHARE project to meet and create music on the spot for 4 days and each night presenting high quality impro music to an engaged and surprised audience.
Concerts were spread over various locations and studios at Sydhavnen in Aarhus, including Frontløberne, Feedback studiet, several art studios, Lowly and the Soulitate Chaibar.
